This patented Mazda design gives the Millenia S
its inspiring acceleration. The combination of unique valve timing
and forced induction from the efficient Lysholm compressor helps
produce 210 horsepower, 23% more than the responsive V6 in the standard
Millenia, yet with even better fuel economy. This 24-valve DOHC
engine produces 170 horsepower and is notably smooth and quiet.
It features a 2-piece engine block designed for strength and rigidity,
to provide support for the fully counter weighted crankshaft. Mazda
refined the electronically controlled automatic transmission to
coordinate the shift points more closely with the engine's torque
peak for exhilarating acceleration. This is particularly valuable
in city traffic and adds to the overall driving enjoyment. For 2003,
we retuned the suspension to improve the car's reflexes in corners
and tight turns. Power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering
gives crisp and positive steering feel. It varies the amount of
assist according to engine speed-more at low rpm, less at high rpm.
